Basic Handling Skills Assessment and Training
Training and Assessment takes place at:
New Rider Course
- $280
- If you are new to riding or not confident with manual gears
- 2 hours training followed by the assessment.
- Use of a Suzuki GN125 is included in the course cost.
Novice Rider Course
- $180
- If you can ride but want to make sure your skills are up to scratch to attempt the assessment
- 1 hour of training plus the assessment
- Use of a Suzuki GN125 is included in the course cost
BHS Assessment
- $90
- If you can ride and you are confident in using a manual motorcycle come along and do the assessment
- Use of a Suzuki GN125 is included in the course cost.
Four test stages
The BHS assessment consists of four stages:
- basic turn and stop
- figure of eight and park
- linking figures of eight
- increased speed and emergency stop
Each stage has various tasks
In each stage you will:
- move off
- straight ride
- corner
- stop
- park
Each task has assessment items
This is what we will assess you on:
- looking in the correct direction
- signalling correctly
- making head checks before changing position
- lateral position of motorcycle
- control of motorcycle
- using appropriate speed
- parking observation
- parking movement.
You will need to bring:
- Photo ID (car licence is ideal, passport, firearms licence, Kiwi Access card)
- Long trousers
- Long sleeved jacket that is front fastening
- Gloves (we can supply a pair)
- Sturdy footwear
- Wet weather gear if necessary
- Helmet (we can supply one)
